Matouk Bassiouny & Hennawy (MBH) has secured a landmark victory in a complex cross-border criminal dispute involving assets valued at over EGP 1 billion.
MBH represented one of Lebanon's prominent families in a multi-jurisdictional case arising from fraudulent transactions targeting substantial landholdings in Egypt. Investigations uncovered a scheme involving forged powers of attorney used to unlawfully transfer key real estate assets belonging to the family.
Throughout the proceedings, MBH led the case before the Criminal Court, preparing legal memoranda, presenting extensive documentary evidence, and rebutting the defence's arguments and foreign witness testimony.
The Felony Criminal Court convicted the defendants, sentencing them to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for forging and using forged official documents.
The judgment underscores MBH's expertise in handling complex, high-stakes cross-border criminal disputes, safeguarding significant client assets and reinforcing the rule of law against sophisticated fraud.
The MBH team was led by Dr. Mohamed Shehata (Partner and Head of Litigation & TMT), Reda Morsy (Legal Director), Eslam Abdeldayem (Counsel), and Mohamed Hanafy (Associate).
