Privacy Policy
What personal information thelaw.me collects, why, who sees it, and the choices you have.
Last updated: 19 October 2026
1. Who we are
thelaw.me is operated by THE LAW LLC ("THE LAW", "we", "us"), which is responsible for the personal information collected through it. For anything about your information, email hello@thelaw.me.
2. Information you give us
- Account and membership: your name, email address and password (stored only in scrambled form, so no one at THE LAW can read it). If you add them: phone number, firm, position, a short biography and a photo, and your membership level.
- Forms: what you type into our contact form, editorial submissions, award nominations, Directory submissions, event listings, workshop registrations, membership applications, and partnership, media coverage and proposal requests. This is usually your name, email address, organisation, phone number and message.
- Newsletter: your email address, and your name if you give it.
3. Information collected automatically
Like any website, our server records technical details of each visit: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These logs are used to keep the Site running and secure.
The Site does not currently use analytics or advertising trackers. If that changes, this policy will be updated first.
4. Cookies
The Site sets only the cookies it needs to work:
- the-law-session: keeps you signed in and remembers what you were doing, for the length of your visit.
- XSRF-TOKEN: protects our forms from being submitted by other websites.
- thelaw_lang: remembers whether you chose English or Arabic, for one year.
- remember_web_…: only if you tick "Remember me" when signing in.
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, but signing in and forms will not work without the first two.
5. How we use your information
- to reply to your enquiries and requests;
- to run your account and membership;
- to review, and where we choose to, publish your submissions and nominations;
- to manage registrations for events, workshops and courses;
- to send the newsletter you subscribed to;
- to keep the Site secure and prevent misuse;
- to meet our legal obligations.
We use it on the basis of your consent, to provide what you asked for, or for our legitimate interest in running a professional publication, and where the law requires.
6. Who sees it
We do not sell your personal information.
- Our team: only staff who need it for their work can see it in our dashboard.
- Service providers: the companies that host the Site and deliver our email process it on our behalf.
- The public: if you send an article, are interviewed, nominated or ranked, your name and what is published about you will be public.
- Authorities: when we are required to by law.
7. Services from other companies
Some parts of the Site are loaded from other companies, which receive your IP address when your browser loads them:
- fonts from Google Fonts;
- page scripts from jsDelivr and cdnjs (Cloudflare);
- videos and their preview images from YouTube (Google), which may set its own cookies when you play a video.
Their use of that information is covered by their own privacy policies.
8. Where it is stored
Our servers and service providers may be in a different country from yours. Wherever your information is processed, we protect it as this policy describes.
9. How long we keep it
- account details: until you ask us to close your account;
- enquiries and submissions: as long as needed to deal with them and keep a record of our work;
- newsletter: until you unsubscribe;
- server logs: for a limited period, for security.
10. How we protect it
The Site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), passwords are stored in scrambled form, and access to our dashboard is limited to authorised staff. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
11. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your information or close your account;
- stop sending you the newsletter, or stop using your information for a purpose you object to.
Email hello@thelaw.me. We may need to confirm who you are first. You may also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
12. Children
The Site is meant for legal professionals and law students and is not directed at children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy when the way we handle personal information changes. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
14. Contact us
Questions about this policy or your information? Email hello@thelaw.me or use our contact page. See also our Terms & Conditions.
